Loverush aka Rob Milton | ![]() |
| A brief history (written by Chrissie Taylor) Something of an unsung hero, but a hugely influential and creative clubbing tactition and turntable maestro. Who has been there and done that way before most of us were out of school.Rob has been DJing for sixteen years, having been an integral part of that London West End crew in the mid eighties.Rob first gained recognition for his role as DJ and co-promoter of the infamous Dirt Box parties throughout the capital. Immortalised in the Face magazine and the TV documentary South of Watford the Dirt Box is often included as a reference to the roots of club culture on most recent books on the subject .His Djing talents soon landed him a residency at Oliver Peytons groundbreaking RAW club, partnered with Dave Dorrell behind the turntables. There followed a residency at Camdens Electric Ballroom. As well as numerous guest spots at such divine locations as the Mud club, Astoria, Wag Club, Hacienda (Manchester) and a plethora of warehouse parties and club nights of the time. In 1988 Rob decided to travel to Sydney and soon landed residencies at clubs like Soho ,Freezer, Spagos and Kinselas. He was also the original business partner of Sugar Ray and they instigated the now infamous Love parties together in 1989.After a return to the UK in the early nineties , Rob returned to Sydney .And soon established himself as one of Sydneys finest DJsWith gigs all over town ,including being an important part of the much lamented Funk Inc parties. The funk, soul and jazz parties that fermented the rare groove scene in Sydney. In 1994 he hooked up with long time friends and fellow ex pats Mal Russell and Michelle Bettison for a one off party - Splash presenting the UKs Danny Rampling. It was the start of a unique promotions team that was to start some of Sydneys biggest and best house nights. In 1995 they established Sydney’s first weekly house club at the Underground Cafe in Kings Cross ,Delicious became legendary for its weekly dose of local. interstate and international guests .With Rob and Mal doubling up as resident DJs and as joint promoters together with Michelle Bettison helped launch the careers of many of todays top DJs in Sydney. Not content with one successful club night they also established High Times at the same venue on Thursday nights. With a slightly more uplifting house music policy ,some considered High Times the more popular of the two. Both nights enjoyed a continuous success and were instrumental in creating the burgeoning house scene we have in Sydney today. Both nights maintained their popularity until the demise of the club in 2000, due to a dramatic and well publicized police bust.He has also managed to play some of the UKs best club nights while hes been on his travels over the years including Progress, Club UK, the Scala, Leisure Lounge, China White and many others.Since then Rob has been concentrating on his music production skills, having kicked it off with what has become one of Australias biggest and most popular tracks Loverush "Same Old Thing" , on Sydney's Tinted records , which was also licensed to the UKs Credence record label. And soon became a monster track on dancefloors all over the world. With the follow up "Luv 2 See Ya (Dancin) being snapped up by UK house label giants Azuli records. Again the track was a instant success on the dancefloors everywhere. Not forgetting Rob's role on the airwaves of Sydney .He hosted his own daily 12-3 afternoon show for over two years on the highly influential Radio Dex. As well as a stint on the ill fated Rhythm FMAgain with his own 1-4 daily afternoon show.Back on the Sydney DJ front Rob has enjoyed residencies at the likes of Home, Yu and Chinese Laundry as well as the usual guest spots at parties and clubs all over town. He is currently working on the new Loverush single and album as well as a solo album project which delves into the more chilled and ambient side of his personality .Rob is now back in the UK and raring to get back behind the turntables, if funky uplifting house is what you want look no further than the man himself!
